Back & Neck Pain

Back pain, especially low back pain accounts for a high percentage of our patients pains. Neck pain isn’t far behind. Both can be quite debilitating and effect our work as well as our rest. Over tight or Spasmed muscles, or even disc bulges (slipped disc) can trap nerves and cause radiating pain, pins & needles, numbness or even weakness in muscle strength. Osteopaths use a range of techniques to help relieve these symptoms.

Arthritic & Rheumatic Pain

Unbalanced muscles can lead to uneven wear of joints which can lead to degeneration of the joints. This is known as osteo-arthritis, it is very common and can be very painful and cause swelling especially when the arthritis is forming. Osteopaths aim to balance out the muscles and lessen the uneven wear and tear on the joints relieving pain. They also help the fluid dynamics and lessen swelling.

Sports Injuries & Performance

Sports injuries are often very acute and come on suddenly due to injury. Early treatment can hugely benefit and improve the rate and quality of repair. Sports injuries can also come in the form of repetitive strain similar to work related pain. Osteopaths can treat sprains, strains, tears, and help rehabilitate after immobilisation following fracture. Osteopathic treatment may also increase performance by enabling the body to function correctly, and aid shock absorption by ensuring that the ligamentous propulsion is effective.

Whiplash

Whiplash is the term often given to describe a ligamentous injury, commonly to the neck and or back. Often caused during a sudden movement e.g a road traffic accident, or fall from a horse. The neck can be especially painful and even weak. Osteopathy can help alleviate the pain and help balance up the ligamentous tension Allowing the neck to regain some normality in movement and function.

Digestion and Circulatory Problems

Digestion and Circulatory problems may be helped with Osteopathic treatment ,depending on the cause of the problem. Especially with problems such as indigestion, articulation of the thoracic cavity can help reduce symptoms.
